LOL — Calling Hebron Occupied and then Showing the 97% that is not.

News of the impending appropriation of a few meters of land, the few meters required to build an accessiblity elevator to the Cave of the Patriarchs, has resulted in the production of the amusing propaganda video in the Tweet below. Let me show you how many errors there are in this very short piece if you were unable to pick them out yourself but watch it first and see if you can find all of them:

UPDATE 30 October 2021: This video can no longer be accessed as the account on which it was uploaded was suspended. Here is the first part of the video on YouTube — they did not include the part that shows the 97% of Hebron that Jews are forbidden from entering. Below the video I leave my remarks from the original post.

First: Of course we are exploiting the Coronavirus! We have nothing else to worry about regarding the virus than to use it as cover for harming our neighbours. (These two sentences are supposed to be read with a sarcastic tone of voice.) Regarding the closing of the mosque to visitors, all places of worship are closed in Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) in order to prevent spread of the disease. And I can assure you that as soon as the danger is passed, worshipers will again be allowed in. But the producers of this film know that as well.

Second: we are taking over the entire Ibrahimi Mosque, er… the Cave of the Patriarchs? Hmm. Appropriating a few meters of land does not constitute “imposing full control” over the site. And that does not constitute turning the mosque into a synagogue. That sounds like what the Muslims did wherever they went — Hagia Sophia in Istanbul that used to be a cathedral in Constantinople. the Taj Mahal in India that is alleged to be built over a Hindu temple to Shiva, and more.

Third: occupied Palestinian city of Al-Halil?  Israel and the PA reached an agreement, called the Hebron Accord, in which 3% of the city is under the auspices of Israel and 97% under the PA. If that is Israel’s idea of occupying a city, we are pretty bad at it. Then they show a view of the sprawling 97% of the city into which Israeli Jews are forbidden from entering.

I love how they keep saying that Israeli government decrees come from Tel Aviv. They just cannot bear to say “Jerusalem” when it refers to the seat of Israeli government. Poor souls!

Also amusing is how they say that about 1000 heavily guarded Jews live among 200,000 Arabs in Hebron. These 1000 Jews do not live among the Arabs at all. The bulk of the 200,000 Arabs live in the 97% of the city into which Jews cannot enter. Yet some Arab families live among the Jews in the 3% of the town controlled by Israel — BY AGREEMENT with the PA, in case you forgot already.

I like how the video says that the Jews are squatting there. In fact, the homes in which they live were bought back from Arabs who took over the homes of Jews massacred in 1929 when the rumour was started that Jews were trying to take control of Har Habayit (the Temple Mount). Oy! That tired old excuse for violence against Jews.

It is amazing how many errors, um, lies, you can fit into two minutes.
