Breaking News: PA Residents Uprising against the Leadership
The residents of the Palestinian Authority have had enough. They are rising up against the leaders. What is in this video is happening right this very moment (23 May 2020 – late afternoon) in Bethlehem. The PA police shot and injured two people.
On Friday the PA Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh declared Martial Law that is supposed to last the entire Eid el-Fitr holiday, until Monday. Nobody is supposed to leave the house, open shops or drive on the streets and visit family. Even the mosques are closed. The reason that was given: workers returning home from their jobs in Israel are bringing the Coronavirus back with them and in order to prevent spread of the infection, everything is shut down and everyone is shut in.
Of course, nobody believes this. Waheed Tahan of Jerusalem and Mohammad Massad of Jenin and Haifa both told me that everyone knows the PA leadership is lying to them. The leaders are starving the population and stealing from them. Because of this, people opened their shops in cities and towns across the PA.
You can see (and hear) the result in the video above and here is a video from last night in Nablus (Shechem).
These are only two examples of what is going on in many places. The uprising began in earnest yesterday even though there have been rumblings for quite some time, as I reported here last year.
And here is a peaceful protest in Bethlehem where the protesters are demanding an end to the PA and that Abbas leave.
UPDATE, after 20:00: The evening news in Israel reported on the demonstration in which two men were shot in the leg but they did not report on the demonstration demanding that Abbas leave. The Israeli report went along with PA claims that this is the result of the end of cooperation between the PA security force and the IDF and that we can expect terrorist acts on the part of Hamas.
Mohammad Massad said there is nothing to this claim and Waheed Tahan said:
Every time the PA wants to justify it’s brutality it will use the excuse that they’re fighting against Hamas. That Hamas card is getting real old.
