Get off-the-Beaten-Path on Your Next Visit

Whether you live here and want to know where to visit next time you have a free day to tour around your own country, or you are planning a visit to Israel, you may be interested in adding one or two or more of these off-the-beaten-path sites to your itinerary.

I, for example, was aware of kayaking in the grottos at Rosh Hanikra, and I had heard about the underground reservoirs in Ramle but forgot about them. I never knew about the Etching Museum at Kibbutz Cabri where you can watch the artists at work, nor about the personal collection on display of musical instruments, radios, music boxes and more at Ein Hod. Ein Hod is worth visiting in any case as it is home to many artists. There are many places to visit in the Golan and this article introduces the Black Canyon and Hexagonal Pools if you are up for a challenging hike and the special eco-farm at Kidmat Zvi that rescues all sorts of animals and has other attractions. Then there is a 10-kilometer stretch in the forest between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv that shows a display of Israeli sculptures, a Bedouin weaving project in the Negev and nine vineyards along the old spice route in the Negev.

I think I’m going to head out to Kidmat Zvi and the spice route next time I can.
