The Meaning of Rosh HaShana
Rosh HaShana commemorates the beginning of the ten Days of Repentance that end with Yom Kippur. Before the holiday officially begins, observant Jews gather by a body of water and do Tashlich, a symbolic act of throwing one’s sins into the water to be carried to the depths and away. Some throw pieces of bread into the water to represent the sins for which they ask forgiveness. Not all denominations of Judaism engage in this practice.

The shofar, a ram’s horn, is sounded on Rosh HaShana as a call to repent. The shofar also commemorates the Binding of Isaac – when Abraham was called by God to sacrifice his son, the son through whom God was supposed to fulfill the promise of seeing the seed of Abraham grow into a nation. Seeing that Abraham put his full faith in God and was prepared to sacrifice his son, an Angel came and told Abraham to release Isaac and sacrifice a ram instead.
While there is this solemn aspect to Rosh HaShana, it is also a time to wish for a happy and healthy year. Jews eat certain foods that symbolize the hope for a good year. Challah is dipped in honey in some homes. What is most familiar to all is the eating of pieces of apple dipped in honey. The honey represents our wishes for a sweet year. Pomegranate, with its multitude of seeds, is also commonly eaten on Rosh HaShana. The seeds represent the good deeds one hopes to accomplish over the year; the religiously observant Jew will see the seeds as representing the Mitzvot or Jewish Laws with which he or she will comply.

If you see a product above that you like, and you click on that product, you open a page like this (the melamine plate is no longer available so the product that clicks open is the same design on a paper plate):
If you scroll down that page, you will see a place that tells you how many other products this artist made from the same design. You can click on the number of products and that will open up a new page with all the relevant products on it. In this case, there are 297 products with the same design. This is an unusually large number.
